Leisurely Shubra

A participatory research workshop was organized by Shubra Archive (Sard) in collaboration with the Khazana School for Heritage and with support from the Center for Economic, Legal, and Social Studies and Documentation (CEDEJ).
The workshop focused on leisure practices in the neighborhoods of Shubra and Rod El Farag, exploring entertainment venues that emerged in the area in the late twentieth century, such as cinemas, theaters, and means of transportation like trams and river buses.

The workshop introduced participants to the history of the neighborhood, oral history methodologies, and the characteristics of intangible cultural heritage.
It lasted for three consecutive days starting from February 11th, followed by a three-week research phase during which participants worked on self-chosen projects based on conducting field research in Shubra.
These projects were presented at a final event held in March.
